The Self-Help Closet & Pantry of Des Plaines

The Self-Help Closet & Pantry of Des Plaines

We’d like to start by thanking our valued customers and team members for helping us create and support alliances for various organizations throughout our area. We truly appreciate the outpouring of kindness and generosity.

Our final community outreach program for 2022 was a partnership with Self-Help Closet & Food Pantry in Des Plaines. The work they do and the number of people they assist are quite amazing. The pantry runs with a staff of 70 volunteers and two part-time employees serving as the Executive Director and Bookkeeper.

The Pantry serves more than 400 households – all within the city of Des Plaines or with children in Des Plaines public schools. Their trademark Red Barrels can be seen in about 50 locations around the area. You may have seen one of the barrels on our showroom floor. Throughout the year, these barrels serve as convenient drop-off points for non-perishable food items.

In addition to the barrel, details of our two-month program were included in our Garden Club e-blasts, all social media platforms, and our in-store signage. Customers were given the opportunity to drop off non-perishable food items, round up their purchases to the nearest dollar, or make a monetary donation directly to the pantry.

We are pleased to report that at the end of our endeavor our barrel was overflowing and we are set to present the pantry with a check for almost $1,100.00.  Our heartfelt thanks to all that participated.
