Cleaning up Your Garden and Yard for Spring

Cleaning up Your Garden and Yard for Spring

Even though it is still cold and damp, we will soon start having a sunny day or two to remind us that it will be time to Come Alive Outside.  That means it’s time to start planning and preparing how you want your landscape to look come springtime.  Before you can do anything with a new garden, you must clean out last year’s garden.  It’s important to not wait too late to begin your clean-up as it is much easier to cut plants back before the old growth gets tangled with the new growth.

Another tip for this time of year when the occasionally sunny day gets us excited for spring is to be on the lookout for cold snaps.  Even though the warmer days are coming, Winter isn’t completely over yet, and when a cold snap comes in, don’t forget to cover your plants so they can withstand whatever mother nature throws at you.

Lastly, as winter draws to a close, now is a great time to inspect your gardening tools.  This will help you determine which tools are in need of repair or replacement.  As with any job, having the correct and functional tool is paramount!  By getting your tools ready now, you can focus on the other aspects of your garden and landscape when it’s warm enough to be outside.

These are just a few tips to help you get ready for spring.  We’d love to take the time to help you with all things related to your garden and yard.   We offer Unilock, Concrete and Clay Pavers, Landscape Lighting, Sod, and more! Lurvey Express will complement our other locations, where you can also get Green Goods and our full line of Natural Stone.  Until next time, we’ll see you “Around the Garden Center”!
