Comprehensive Design, Lead Landscape Designer
Jenny comes from a long line of gardeners so when she decided to make a career change in 2002, Landscape Design seemed like a natural choice. Since she has been in the green industry she has worked at several garden centers but has primarily worked for design/build firms. Jenny joined Lurvey in 2016 and her designs are both thoughtful and detailed. She enjoys designing hardscapes, as well as landscapes, and utilizes native and pollinator-friendly plants.
Jenny has a BA in Food Science and Nutrition with a minor in Biology. Also, she has an Associate’s degree in Ornamental Horticulture, with certificates in Landscape Design and Sustainable Landscaping from the College of DuPage. In her free time, Jenny enjoys gardening, bike riding, and ballroom dancing.
Design Express
Thom’s affinity for nature stems from his childhood exploration of the woods, quarries, and streamsides around his home in the Catskill Mountains of New York. After completing an Associate’s Degree in Horticulture at the State University of New York – Cobleskill, Thom went on to attain a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. Thom also did some post-graduate work in Restoration Ecology at the University of Wisconsin.
Thom made the move to Chicago in 2003 and worked at an area garden center in sales and design. In 2012, he began working at Lurvey. Thom loves when he can be creative using regionally appropriate perennials, grasses, and shrubs in the front yard setting to negotiate a clean yet free-spirited look; respecting the scale and features of the house as well as delivering reduced maintenance and longevity as a requirement. Thom brings together his love of nature and knowledge of horticulture, design, and construction to deliver elegantly styled landscapes.
Comprehensive Design
John grew up in Iowa in a country-like environment and began digging holes at the age of seven. He was fortunate to have full access to his parent’s backyard and experiment with hardscapes, digging up trees and creating dams and waterfalls.
After he completed his Associate of Applied Science degree in Horticulture at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa he continued his education at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa earning a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree in 1987. Since then he has mainly worked with Landscape Design/Build Companies and gained some valuable hands-on experience. John joined Lurvey in 2021 and since then he has enjoyed every day. He has a design style where he likes to capture the surrounding landscapes and treat each property as a whole to bring that sense of continuity.
You won’t see much of John when the NFL season begins as he is a long-time, 52-year Kansas City Chiefs fan, so the game is on and the grill is fired up.
— see how Lurvey can help bring it to life!
