We couldn’t be more excited about our new, state-of-the-art Center in Des Plaines! This will allow us to better serve our Chicagoland customers and the community through more space and the ability to be open year-round. We wanted to take a moment to tell you how we got here and a bit about what the future holds!
We started selling sod, landscaping supplies, and other garden items from our nine-acre Des Plaines location minutes from Chicago in 1986 when we purchased the garden center and former truck farm from Ray and Marion Lindemann, who had operated it for about 50 years. We continued to run the business as Lindemann’s Garden Center until 1994, when we changed the name to “Lurvey.” Since that time, we have had several renovations and additions. We eventually outgrew our space from new greenhouses to renovating the old Lindemann house into our former store in 2000.
Our new Center has great new amenities and room to grow! When you visit the new Center, you’ll notice wider aisles, lots of elbow room, natural light, and much more room for garden essentials, gifts, house plants, fountain, and water gardening supplies! In addition, we have a classroom for workshops, a conference room for consultations, and even a lounge area with comfortable furniture and a two-story fireplace where customers can read brochures and meet with designers.
We can’t wait to share our new Center with the community too! For instance, we have started a garden club for kids to get the next generation excited about gardening. We plan to offer many more special events now that we have a place to host people, even in inclement weather. So stop in today and check out the new Chicagoland Garden Center. We think you’ll like it! As always, we hope you’ll take the opportunity to “Embrace Your Space,” and we hope to help you out along the way!
