Description
Red volcanic rock, or scoria, forms when gas-rich, iron-rich magma erupts from a volcano. As the molten rock is expelled, expanding gas bubbles create a porous texture. The rock turns red when iron minerals inside the cooling lava oxidize upon exposure to oxygen. It is lightweight compared to other types of landscaping stones and is ¾” to 1 ½”. Each 1 cubic foot bag will cover about 6 square feet at a depth of 2”. It is also commonly referred to as lava rock. It’s typically stocked at our Des Plaines and Volo locations. WARNING: This product is not suitable for firepits or fireplaces.
