An Introduction to Permeable Pavers

Permeable pavers offer numerous advantages for homeowners who want to upgrade their property with a new driveway, patio, or other types of hardscape application. Permeable pavers are a great way to add sustainability and eco-friendly elements to your outdoor living space.

How It Works

Permeable pavers do not stand alone in function, they are part of a system. The pavers themselves are not permeable. The water is not going through the paver; it’s going through the joints into the system below which is comprised of layers of differently-sized aggregates and crushed stone.

Permeable pavers allow the water to drain between the pavers into the aggregate below, preventing the water from pooling on the paved surface. They also filter out litter and pollutants from the water and help direct stormwater. This allows groundwater to be recycled for other purposes, such as irrigation, water features, washing vehicles, or can even help with flooding.

Environmentally Friendly

Permeable pavers reduce stormwater runoff and improve water quality. With permeable concrete pavers, any rain that falls on your patio, walkway, or driveway seeps back into the ground, reducing the burden on storm drains. A permeable paver system can even be designed to harvest and recycle rainwater.

Instead of asphalt or poured concrete, consider concrete permeable pavers for your driveway.
