We all have odds and ends lying around that can be repurposed or put to better use. Taking old materials and turning them into something completely new is a great way to refresh and refurbish your space. From something as simple as making a new planter out of an old pallet to building a walkway from upcycled materials, there is an abundance of ways to make something old new again for your outdoor living space. Here are a few projects that take something old and make it new again.

Wind Chimes

Wind chimes are a simple decoration that can bring some life and sound into any outdoor living space. Also, they can be made from a wide variety of materials. You can use pretty much anything, from old silverware to mason jars.

Pallet Planter

Old pallets can be refurbished in a multitude of ways and add a rustic and natural-looking decoration to any garden. One of our favorite ways to refurbish pallets is to use them as planters. They already have nice dividers so you can keep an eye on your different plants. Also, you can hang a pallet (outside or inside) and plant a beautiful vertical garden.

Garden Markers

It’s always good to be aware of what plants are growing where in your garden. You can make garden markers out of materials like old silverware, popsicle sticks, or even wine corks. Just write the names of the plants in your garden on your chosen material and place them in the ground near the corresponding plant. It will make it easier when going back and distinguishing between all of the beautiful blooms in your garden.

Swing

swing made from a wine barrel. If you have a porch or tree, you could make a comfortable and stylish swing from part of a wine barrel. This is a relatively simple project that would liven up any outdoor living space, for kids or for adults.

Fountain Planter

If you have a fountain that doesn’t work anymore, or you’re just not willing to keep the water running, you can always refurbish your fountain into a planter. Just make sure to think about what plants would look and function best in that kind of environment and plan accordingly.

There are endless ways to take old materials and make something new out of them. Upcycling is a great project for you and for your outdoor living space.
