If you’re stumped as to what bulbs would be a good choice for indoor, winter growing, we have a couple of favorites that we would like to suggest. The first is  Paperwhites. They look like miniature daffodils that have perfect aromatic indoor fragrances and stunning colors. They will fit beautifully within your home over the holidays or anytime throughout the winter.  

The blossoms of this bulb are usually white. It takes only a month from planting for paperwhites to bloom. They grow so fast that they are perfect for kids – and impatient gardeners – of all ages! 

Amaryllis is another favorite to grow indoors. The bulbs themselves are usually 3-4” across and produce large flowers on a stalk, in clusters of three, and sometimes two stalks per bulb.  Each bloom is sometimes 6” across and can be spectacular! 

Plant the bulb and place the potted bulb in a warm place with direct light since heat is necessary for the development of the stems. The ideal temperature is 68 to 70 degrees F.  Water sparingly until the stem begins to poke out from the bulb. Then, as the bud and leaves appear, gradually water more. At this point, the stem will grow rapidly and flowers will develop after it has reached full growth. Bulbs will flower in 7-10 weeks as a general rule.  To achieve continuous bloom, plant at intervals of 2 weeks for stunning color in your home or garden.

When the weather outside is cold and dreary, you can plant some bulbs to bring some life into your home. They are quick and easy to plant, so you can warm up your green thumb during the colder months of the year.
