Every year in the ‘off-season’ our teams embark on journeys to discover home and garden trends for the upcoming season. This time of year is the perfect time to reflect, reset, and prepare for the year to come. Two of those trips include The Winter Market at AmericasMart in Atlanta and The TPIE Show in Fort Lauderdale. One is a premier trade show showcasing the latest in home, outdoor living, and holiday decor while the other is the ultimate showcase for all things houseplants, patio and blooming tropicals, and annuals. Both shows play an important role in helping our team find home decor trends and be in sync with what customers will be looking for to enhance their home and outdoor living spaces. Continue reading below to get insider information about the trends and treasures in 2025!

The Winter Market at AmericasMart

Last week, several buying team members – Scott, Tom, Kristi, and Rene – embarked on Lurvey’s annual journey to Atlanta for the Winter Market. This trade show is unlike any other, featuring hundreds of permanent showrooms and temporary exhibits spanning various categories, including outdoor living, home and entertainment, and holiday decor, all highlighting cutting-edge design trends. The market offers a hands-on experience, allowing us to see, touch, and test the products that we are interested in firsthand.

Buying team at a vendor's showroom

Since the event takes place shortly after the holiday season, we arrived with fresh insights from Christmas sales. Kristi and Rene focused on curating selections from numerous vendors, ensuring our store maintains a cohesive and unique theme that stands apart from our competitors. Meanwhile, Tom and Scott honed in on outdoor living furniture selections, expanded our indoor pottery collection, and scouted new and trendy outdoor and home decor items.

Beyond product selection, the market provides valuable opportunities to connect with vendors, fellow buyers, and industry insiders. These conversations help us gauge our standing in the industry, gain insights into upcoming trends, and secure the best pricing and freight caps for the year ahead.

Key Takeaways from the Market

Each person on the trip came away with a different experience and had a different perspective of the show. Each visit to the Winter Market offers an opportunity to deepen relationships, stay informed about industry shifts, and identify emerging trends. This year was no different. From strengthening vendor partnerships to tracking consumer preferences, we gathered valuable insights that will help shape our selections for the coming seasons.

Building Strong Vendor Relationships

We’ve cultivated long-standing relationships with vendors like Debbie from Allstate, Tim from Outdoor Interiors, and Ruth from Ivy Stone. These connections allow us to negotiate exclusive deals, resolve issues efficiently, and maintain open lines of communication.

Market Trends & Insights

Many vendors reported a slow fall season for garden centers, with some expressing concerns about tariffs. Fortunately, we were reassured that tariff effects wouldn’t be felt for at least another two years.

Emerging Holiday Color Trends

The holiday palette is evolving, with pinks and teals gaining traction—likely influenced by younger generations decorating their homes for Christmas. Traditional red and green remain dominant, while blue is emerging as a trend to watch, from icy hues to deep navy tones.

Product Highlights & Expansions

Christmas Trends & Offerings

While there weren’t many groundbreaking items this year, our focus was on sourcing unique pieces that customers won’t find elsewhere. We also expanded our Christmas lighting selection to meet growing demand and ensure a fresh, exciting inventory for the upcoming season.

Outdoor Living & Garden Innovations

The outdoor living segment continues to grow and evolve and you will see that in our product offerings for 2025. The redesign of the show’s garden floors significantly enhanced the shopping experience, attracting more customers to this section and drawing us into showrooms we hadn’t previously explored.

We discovered two new vendors, SUNS Outdoor and Slyline Design, offering high-end resort-grade products. Standout items included a 10′ x 12′ metal gazebo with adjustable louvers, a unique swing chair, and a striking dining table that suspends diners from ropes – reminiscent of childhood fun.

From outdoor furniture and umbrellas to fountains and garden art, many of these products can be found in our Outdoor Living category, right here at www.lurvey.com. Please check back often as new items are being added weekly!

Pottery & Indoor Decor

Pottery and indoor decor continue to be a focal point for bringing fresh, stylish elements into homes and gardens. This year, we expanded our selection with Creative Co-op’s affordable pottery collection, strategically timed for a mid-year inventory refresh. Additionally, we’re excited to introduce Momma Pots, a vibrant and innovative brand pushing the boundaries of indoor pottery with bold colors and unique shapes, adding a fresh pop of personality to any space.

Exploring TPIE 2025

Last week our seasonal color team, Bryan and Brennan, headed to sunny Fort Lauderdale for TPIE – the Tropical Plant International Expo – a must-visit event for all things houseplants, patio and blooming tropicals, and annuals. As an element of your indoor space, these plants help to drive home decor trends and are an integral part of determining the feel of your home.

And before you get too jealous of a trip to Florida in January, let me clarify: it was in the low 60s and rainy for most of the trip!

Behind the Scenes in Homestead

Before the expo officially kicked off, we made a detour to Homestead, FL, where hundreds of plant growers operate their farms. We visited five growers that Lurvey sources material from – four trusted vendors and one newer orchid supplier. Walking through their farms was a highlight, giving us a firsthand look at their incredible plant selections. Bryan even handpicked a few large specimen trees, which arrived in the Conservatory last week. Make sure to stop by before the plants are gone!

Learning & Industry Trends

Brennan took advantage of the learning opportunities available at the expo and attended two insightful lectures:

  • Canadian Peat: A Sustainable Growing Medium for Future Generations
  • Transforming Interiorscape Projects With Biophilic Design

Both were thought-provoking and packed with valuable insights. If you have a chance, visit us and ask her about them!

Every year, TPIE has an unofficial trend that emerges across many vendor displays. Last year, it was all about rare and exotic collector plants – but we noticed recently that demand at Lurvey had started to decline. Sure enough, this year vendors were back to basics, featuring more classic and timeless selections than exotics. Another standout theme? Neutral tones, earth-inspired hues, and rustic/recycled materials. Check back in with us at the end of 2025 to see if that trend really takes off!

Inside the Expo: 500 Vendors, Miles of Plants

While Bryan focused primarily on plants, the show featured pottery, home goods, fertilizers, and other gardening essentials, and at least 40 companies that Lurvey sources products from were represented.

TPIE is a massive event, with nearly 500 vendors filling the show floor. Walking the aisles was a workout in itself, but it was worth it to hunt for that cool new thing. Since it was Brennan’s first time at the show, it was the perfect opportunity to introduce her to the companies we partner with. We had 18 direct vendors at the show, so it was a great opportunity for both Bryand and Brennan to network, see what’s thriving, and get updates on these vendor’s inventory.

Final TPIE Thoughts

TPIE is always a whirlwind—exhausting but worth it. Every trip gives us fresh insights into the industry, plant trends, and vendor relationships that help shape what we bring back to Lurvey. If you’re curious about what we saw (or want to see some great plant pics), Bryand and Brennan would love to chat!

Looking Ahead

These trips reaffirmed our commitment to staying ahead of home decor trends and bringing fresh, exciting products to our customers. We’re eager to showcase these finds in the upcoming year and look forward to sharing them with you soon. Stay tuned for sneak peeks and updates on our latest selections, and be sure to visit us at Lurvey Home & Garden soon!
